This is a book report on Washington Irving's "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow." In the Legend of Sleepy Hollow, it is Ichobod Crane, of all characters, that Irving would have us follow. It is through his eyes that we see the countryside, view the village people, grow the attachment to at the heart of the story. Ichabod, the instructor of the children, the likeable man, the friend of all in Sleepy Hollow. A tall man with long arms and legs; his schoolhouse a low building with but one room. The master of the schoolhouse, he "urged some tardy loiterer along the flowery path of knowledge." Often the playmate of the larger boys, he spent many afternoons as a companion to the locals. Often in search of pretty sisters or housewives known for their "comforts of the cupboard."

737.294 Reflections of Us All.
This is a book report on "The Girl." Meridel's novel, The Girl is a story that strikes many chords. A story that makes a statement that can be heard just as loudly today as it was yesterday in 1978 when first written. Clara is a woman that represents all women, the weaker side in a society that preys on just that. The Girl is a woman who represents all us all, too; she is the stronger, more proactive side in the face of anything. Both of these women are making peace with their pasts and their future. The summary of this story is the most present in the lines.

738.295 All The King's Men.
This paper reviews and analyzes the characters in All the King's Men. Between Albert Camus' "Life is Absurd," and Viktor Frankl's "The Human Search for Meaning : Reflections on Auschwitz" (both published in "The Moral Life" collection of essays edited by Louis P. Pojman), the first directly relates to the principal theme of " All the King's Men" by Robert Penn Warren. That principal theme was evolved by the shady character, Jack Burden, the hatchet man of a powerful and vindictive governor Willie Stark in Warren's novel. Jack concluded that a human being is not responsible for the consequences of his actions in the face of universal chaos and the imperious control of time, towards which he is powerless.

739.297 The Thin Red Line A Novel by James Jones.
This is a book report of James Jones's "The Thin Red Line." This book is not about men at war as much as it is about war in men. It is about war alright...a war with fear for some, with jealousy for another, a war with death for another, war with faith for yet another. Every one of those C-for-Charlie company has a war...not only with the unseen Japs and their deadly hidden machine guns...but also with themselves. In order to win the war with the outside enemy, they have to win a war with the inside enemy, the humanity in them, and they must lose the war against the animal in them... The story has its share of tactics and warfare...but its main concern is with the men at this war...and the war in these men. To say that this book is outstanding is an understatement.

740.298 Things Fall Apart.
This paper reviews the book, Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe. This paper will look at religion as well as the issue of socialism in the book. This paper will also note some of the author's parallels in society today. Masking as Achebe portrayed in Things Fall Apart supported traditional perceptions of the relationship between society and the sacred; therefore, the implementation of masking as obscured by colonialism presented a unique opportunity for Europeans to reconfigure established perceptions of reality. In traditional Igbo society, it was the role of the artist to affirm a sense of "the sacred" within the community.
