206. 574 An Analysis of The Descent of Man and Selection in Relation to Sex.

In the paragraph quoted from Charles Darwin's The Descent of Man and Selection in Relation to Sex, Darwin presents the theory that regardless of how far man has come, or how far, still, man aims to go, man will always be reminded, through his physiology, of where he has come from. To paraphrase, Darwin is saying that, because man clearly stands at the top of the food chain, it is only natural for him to feel a sense of innate superiority to all other life on the planet. What's further, the fact that man has achieved his standing gradually, over time, gives man reason to believe that he has the potential to continue that advancement to even greater heights at some point in the future.

208. 16168 Acid Rain: An Analysis of Effects and Industry Costs in the U.S. and Canada

This ten-page undergraduate paper examines the issue of acid rain in eastern Canada and the New England states. The author notes that acid rain is created through the reaction of air pollutants such as sulfur oxides and nitrogen oxides with water in the air, which forms strong acids such as sulfuric and nitric acid. It spreads across wide geographic areas, making it difficult to conclusively determine who is responsible for damages, thus creating political controversy and complicating efforts to reduce it. While progress has been made in reducing acid rain, much more needs to be done, both politically and in private industry.

209. 717 Global Warming.

Global Warming, aside from pollution is one of scientists biggest concerns. The green house effect is one of the major reasons causing Global Warming. There are four steps in the Greenhouse effect, which are, Sunlight radiates from the sun, through space, to earth's atmosphere. The sunlight enters the atmosphere and hits Earth. Some of it turns into heat energy in the form of infrared light. The heat gets impregnated by enclosing air and land, which in turn makes it warm. Infrared rays that are remitted into the atmosphere are captured by greenhouse gases. The gas then absorbs the light and is remitted back to the Earth's surface and warms it even more. Methane and carbon dioxide are some of the naturally occurring greenhouse gases. This is the manner in which the Earth keeps itself temperate enough for humans to live on it. The only concern with this is that humans are enhancing the process even further.

210. 736 Human danger

This paper discusses the role of mankind and the earth. Are the people in the world in danger due to the way humankind treat the earth? Man has always treated the Earth, its atmosphere, its bodies of water, its whole environment and its different life forms and breed as objects, which he may simply use, demolish, ravage and then dump when he is through with them. Man's craving for everything the Earth has to offer and his extreme urge to reproduce will finally eat up and destroy the planet once and for all, where he will leave nothing behind except for an extinct, infertile wasteland.
