This Five-page undergraduate paper critically reviews the classic nineteenth century story, 'The Yellow Wallpaper' by Charlotte Perkins Stetson Gilman. The story establishes the argument for which the author was firmly committed to, that women should be allowed to pursue their intellectual ambitions. Their isolation and economic dependence only leads to mental deterioration. The story was a sharp response to the social, economic and medical practices of her day. 5 pgs. 333.3284 Female Characters in "The Great Gatsby".
In this paper, I analyze the three main female characters of The Great Gatsby: Daisy Buchanan, Jordan Baker, and Myrtle Wilson. I attempt to show how each represented the materialism and shallow nature of the upper classes during 1920s America. I point out how the characters are similar in that they are self-centered, careless, and have little self-respect. 5 pgs. 11 f/c. 4b.

334.3294 A Critical Reading of Connie Panzarino's "The Me in the Mirror".
Connie Panzarino's "The Me in the Mirror", an autobiographical account of her life as a writer and activist born with a rare disease known as Spinal Muscular Atrophy, is an inspiring story of one woman's struggle for survival and achievement. However, from the point of view of women's and disability studies, inspirational studies are not by themselves particularly significant. This paper will argue that what renders Panzarino's work noteworthy to students and professionals in this field is her repeated transgressing of societal taboos surrounding women and disability. As will be seen, Panzarino's focus on her body as a site of resistance - in particular, her assertion of her sexuality as a disabled woman - informs her theoretical critique of the associated constructs of patriarchy, ableism, racism and homophobia. 5.5 pgs. 7 f/c. 2b.
This essay discusses reader response criticism of "Huck Finn" in connection to racism. The paper argues that different readers interpret the racist slurs within the book differently. For this reason, there must be a carefulness with sensitivity. 7.5 pgs. 5 f/c. 6b.

336.3449 Anti-Semitism in "The Sun Also Rises".
This essay argues that Ernest Hemingway's "The Sun Also Rises" is anti-Semitic in terms of its treatment of the character Robert Cohn. Cohn is painted in a negative light and none of the characters like him. Cohn is the anti-hero, yet he has Jewishness intentionally imposed upon him. In this respect, "The Sun Also Rises" involves anti-Semitism. 7 pgs. 15 f/c. 7b.
